A letter of work experience is a letter that is issued to someone as verification of their past work experience. These are extremely useful when applying for a new job where specific levels of experience are required. For example, if you were applying for a job at an accounting firm as a senior accountant, they may require you to have 5 years past experience as a junior accountant. So, to prove that, you would need to request a letter of work experience from your previous employer verifying that you meet those requirements.
Keep the letter brief, rather than a full blown reference this is more to verify qualifications and ability.
Note the job title, dates of employment, and what the positioned entailed.
Mention if there were any issues with the employee such as a disciplinary incident, or alternatively praise any exceptional work or qualities.

Dear Mrs. Moritz,
I am writing this letter to verify that Michael L. Bartlett has worked in the past at our accounting firm as a junior accountant.
He began work with us in that position on July 14th, 1998, and continued to occupy that position until his resignation on April 5th, 2009. He worked for us for a total of just around 11 years.
If you have any questions or concerns about Michael L. Bartlett’s term of employment with us, don’t hesitate to call me at 800-231-8932, anytime between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to verify that Dustin Applegate worked for Titan Tarmacing as a junior tarmacer from 04/08/2002 until 06/01/2005.
Dustin worked full time during his time with us and was never warned or disciplined in any way. His duties involved manual labour, driving, and using tarmacing machinery. In his final year he was trusted to lead his own small team when senior workers were unavailable.
If you have any other queries about Mr. Applegate’s employment with us, please get in contact. I wish him luck with his visa.
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter at the request of George Amos, confirming his former employment at Wonder Computing. Mr. Amos worked with us between 2006 and 2009 as a full time software analyst.
This position entailed using a comprehensive range of computer software, testing it for bugs, and analyzing whether it met the designated criteria of clients.
Mr. Amos was a pleasure to employ, and always impressed me with his meticulous work.
Please contact me on (912) 065-6463 if you require any other information.
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to verify that Mrs. Joan Piper was employed as an English teacher at our school, Highwater High, for grades 7 and 8, from August 2009 to June 2013.
On top of her regular classes Joan pioneered an extra-curricular book club to encourage students to read more on their own time and enjoy literature without the pressure of curriculum. It was a huge success and no doubt played a role in her classes excelling in English exams.
Mrs. Piper will be a true asset wherever she choose to teach in the future.
