Letter of Admission

There are two main types of admission letter that are commonly written. The first is usually sent to a recipient confirming that they have been admitted to a specific event, course, academic institution, or club. This is a cordial letter that explains why the recipient has been admitted and politely prompts them to accept the offer.

The second type of admission letter is sent by students to prospective universities or colleges, such as nursing school or graduate school. The student must convey why they want to attend and what makes them suitable for admission. It is important for them to sell themselves not just by listing their qualifications and grades, but by passionately sharing their long-term goals, and efforts so far to achieve them. For example somebody hoping to enter journalism school may have a history of good English grades and SATs, but will have a better chance of admission if they worked on a high school newspaper, write a popular blog, and have already had some work published locally.

Letters of admission are the main way university students find out if they have been admitted to universities where they have applied.

College Admission Letter Example

Dear Admissions,

After looking at several colleges in the region that have film production courses, I have chosen to apply to the New York Film Academy due to its exceptional reviews from former graduates and its overall stellar reputation in the industry. Furthermore I was blown away by the varying programs and renowned professionals teaching them.

My foray in to film started at an early age and I have edited dozens of amateur videos which have received medium to viral success on the internet. I am now eager to learn from the pros and excited about starting an undergraduate course. My goal is to complete the Two Year Master of Fine Arts program, while earning valuable experience as a runner and editor on small independent projects. I have already been blessed with a handful of such opportunities and feel with the world class education on offer at the Academy I can slowly build confidence and the contacts to fulfill my dreams.

In terms of academic achievement I have APs in Film, Media Studies and English Literature, and was an opinion columnist for my high school newspaper, which allowed me to hone my storytelling skills.

Attached you will find my application, as well as a short 4 minute mash-up of my amateur films, and the essay “Why I Love The Art of Film” as recommended in the prospectus pack.

I appreciate your consideration and look forward to your response.
Yours faithfully,
Duncan Randazo
