Complaint letter about rent increase

Dear Janet Landlord:

I’ve received your letter stating that my rent would increase, but I do have some questions of my own and a valid complaint as well.

First and foremost, my rent has gone up every single year that I’ve been living here despite paying on time every single month. Why is this?

If you may recall our contract stated that I would start out paying $375 and if the rent were to ever go up, I would receive a 60 day notification in advance.

My rent as of July 2006 – $375

My rent as of July 2007 – $425

My rent as of July 2008 – $525

My rent as of July 2009 – $575

So not only is my rent being increased this year, but my rent going up by another $25 meaning that my rent as of next year would be doubled since moving in. If you compare the same apartments around the area, the rent is only a modest $500 flat.

I would like to discuss our options here as I feel this is highly unfair, especially for someone who has always paid their rent on time and never given you trouble.

Please call me at 931-0202 at your earliest convenience; I’d really appreciate it if I didn’t have to find a new place to live.

Sincerely,

Alan Tenant
