A letter of friendship is any letter between two people that reaffirms or proposes friendship. For example if a friend was there for you during a time of need you may write a letter expressing your appreciation for their friendship. Or if a friendship has been tested, you may write a letter to smooth over any tension.
Alternatively though it may not be formally written as such, you may write a letter of friendship to somebody who you have grown to like, pursuing a friendship, such as asking them to join you in some kind of social gathering.
Letters of friendship should be genuine. Do not write to somebody who will be uncomfortable receiving a letter from you.
Since this kind of letter is between friends or soon to be friends, it doesn’t have to be formal.
That being said letters usually hold more meaning, beyond an email or a text. Double check if your correspondence truly requires a letter.
Dear Jane,
I am just writing this letter to once again express my apologies in relation to the incident that happened at the bay on October 4th, 2009.
I had no idea that you felt that way about John. I did not mean to say those mean things about him. I had a few too many drinks and didn’t know what I was saying.
Is there anything I can do to make this up to you? We have been friends for many years now, and I don’t want something as silly as this to keep us apart. I truly enjoy spending time around you, and I hope you feel the same way,
Sincerely,
Jessica
Hi Molly,
I haven’t had chance to express my gratitude for being there for me earlier this year, following the death of my father.
I was in a complete state and ditching your commitments and traveling all the way from London to sort me out, was the most genuine and selfless act of kindness I have ever experienced. I just regret not having been more responsive at the time. Depression is a strange condition.
I truly appreciate our friendship and if you ever need anything, I am just a text or email away. And any time I get to visit London, you will be my first port of call.
Much Love,
Zoe
April! I had a blast two years ago at my cousin Mark’s graduation party in Florida, those beer games you brought over were hilarious.
He told me you’ve moved to LA to get in to modeling. I’ve been here for just over a year now, so if you need anyone to give you the “tour”, drop me an email. I’ve got a great bunch of friends and the more the merrier.
Let me know what you’re up to.
Mike,
that dude with the hat.
Dear Cassie,
This is Rachel from the New York branch of Global Energy, we met last year at the Energy United event in Australia and you said we should get in touch if I ever ventured back to the land down under.
Well me and my family enjoyed it so much that we’ve deiced to return for a vacation and I thought I would write to you in case you wanted to catch up? I hope you don’t mind me pulling your department details from HR?
Anyway, we’re staying at a hotel just outside of Brisbane beginning on the 15th, so let me know if you’re free any time next week.
I look forward to hearing from you. My personal email is rachy57nyc@boffle.com
