A letter of goodbye is a letter that you write to someone when they are leaving. These letters are usually very informal. These letters are usually very personal and are used to express any undisclosed feelings or thoughts the writer might have. The contents of a letter of goodbye vary greatly, but they usually include descriptions of the feelings the writer is having at the time.
Dear Andy and the Team,
I am writing to officially quell the rumors and let you all know that I am saying goodbye to the New York Offices of Harper and transferring to their operation in London next month.
Working in New York, especially with you guys, was a dream come true when I started here at 19 years old. Your guidance and wisdom has helped make me one of the company’s most prized assets, and for that I am truly grateful. However all good things must come to an end and I am excited about the new opportunity to start this new phase in life.
I’m sure I’ll be back to visit from time to time, but for those of you who don’t have my details, you can email me on firstname.lastname@example.org
Once again thank you for everything.
I must say I was shocked but excited when you announced that you will be traveling to Africa and other adventurous places around the world for the foreseeable future. The weak and jealous person inside me wants throw a tantrum and make you stay, but as your best friend I am proud that you have decided to follow your dreams.
I know contacting us all probably won’t be that easy from some places, so I thought I would write this goodbye letter as a keep-sake in case you ever get down or homesick.
I will miss you, and if you choose to settle down in some far off land, let it be known that I have truly appreciated your friendship.

Dear Mrs. Hendrickson,
As I have previously stated to you, I am deeply saddened by your decision to leave me and return to England. I know that is where your home is, but I feel that what we had going here was really good and that our relationship was developing nicely.
I never really got to tell you this, but I thought you would be the one I would be spending the rest of my life with. I envisioned us getting married one day, having a family and living happily ever after. But now, I don’t know if I will ever see you again.
Please reconsider your decision to leave. But, if you do decide to leave anyways, always know that I loved you!
Angela C. Parker
I know the last few weeks have been difficult, and I know we will both probably be hurting for weeks to come – but as I go off to college and you move to California with your father, our relationship will only cause more heartache in the long run.
We have learned a lot from each other in the past 3 years, things we will never forget, but it’s now time to move on to the next stage of our lives, to blossom in to adulthood and follow our dreams.
I truly believe that this is the best way to end things. No rowing, no going behind each other’s back as we fall for the inevitable temptations that strain every long distance relationship. This way we can remain friends, cherish the times we had, and move forward positively.
Though we can no longer be together, you will always be my first love.
Dear Mrs. Smith,
As you are aware, I will be leaving JLP Associates at the end of the week for a new position at Lime Corp. Before I go I would like to take this moment to express my gratitude for the opportunities you have given me over the past 6 years.
What you saw in me at the beginning I will never know, but now I owe my livelihood to your mentoring and guidance.
Leaving you and the rest of the team was always going to be tough, but I am excited and enthusiastic about my new job.
If you ever need any information from me as a friend or professional contact, feel free to drop me an email.
Thanks for everything.
To Greg, Dana and all those at Worldwide BBQ,
I’m writing this letter to inform you that I am moving on from PJ Gas and Electrics and you’ll be working with a hot new recruit in the coming weeks (go easy on him!).
It’s been an absolute pleasure doing business with you all over the past 5 years. I know it’s sad, but our phone calls really did brighten up my day, and I will never forget our business trip to China. It amazes me how you’ve made the selling and installation of gas pipes such a fun experience!
Nonetheless a better salary and higher position awaits, so I bid farewell to you all. If you want to stay in touch you’ve got my details.
