A letter of donation can be used by those giving and those requesting donations. For example someone who wishes to give a sum of money or property to a charitable organization, may send a letter accompanying their donation, including their personal details and a short note about the reasons why they chose to give. For larger sums of money it is important to include an address so the charity can send you a tax receipt.
Likewise a church or charity may send letters or hand out leaflets requesting donations. These will usually contain the details of the cause and instructions on how to make the donation.
Most charities will also send out a thank you letter when a donation has been made.

Dear Animal Rescue,
My name is James. I have been following the activities of your organization for some time now and have decided that I would like to make a monetary donation.
Attached you will find a certified check in the amount of $1000.
While this is a relatively small amount, I really hope that it will make a difference in the lives of the many animals you help rescue.
My tax receipt can be sent to:

Dear valued member of the community,
Christ’s Cavalry Church has grown in to an integral place of worship for local residents, with regular Sunday services and numerous events throughout the year. However in living up to our cavalry name, we carry out the work of God well beyond the walls of the church.
We are also an important local charity, sheltering and feeding the homeless, guiding drug users to rehabilitation, and taking care of our nations veterans where others have forgotten.
However we cannot maintain our charitable commitments without a little goodwill from the community at large, so we are seeking donations from valued citizens like yourself.
Helping people is a universal principal and we hope you will consider making a donation regardless of your faith. The church is deeply appreciative of any sum, no matter how large or small.
Please find further details enclosed.
Sincerely,
Pastor Neville
Dear Sir or Madam,
Please find enclosed a check donation of $300 to the Wilson Dog’s Home.
I am making this donation in the memory of my recently deceased friend Kelly Silva, a lifelong lover of dogs who housed and rehabilitated strays without any professional help or financial backing.
Kelly was also a supporter of many animal charities and I found your details in an old email correspondence with her.
I request that you please send a notice of the donation in Kelly’s name to her family at: 5503 Stony View, Oregon, Oregon, 97747-7857. Addressed to Mr. Silva, her father.
Please send the receipt to 2402 Amber Bear Circuit, Scraper, Oregon, 97714-8439.
Thank you for your assistance and I hope that my $300 can help a difference.
Sincerely,
Mr. Clayson Gamble
Dearest Julie,
Thank you for your most kind and generous gift to Steinbeck Elementary School of $2,000. Your wonderful donation will buy new specialized school text books for 200 special education children who we take care of at our school.
Our mission has always been to integrate slow learners in to the regular classroom, and with your help we can continue to make this a reality with books that are specifically tailored for their needs.
Thank you so much for your kindness.
Warm regards,
Principal Boyden
Dear sir or madam,
I am writing on behalf of Hoffmeister Children’s Charity, that raises money for child medical bills. Each year we hold a number of fun family fundraising events in the local community, such as a soccer tournament, BBQ cookout and talent contests.
I’d like to request that your business considers sponsoring one of our upcoming talent contests. We get turnouts between 500 to 1000, and your details will be included on all leaflets and programs, and on a big banner above the stage.
This is a great opportunity to promote your business and create goodwill within the community. All donations are also tax deductible, as we are a registered charity.
If this may be of interest to you please get back to me on (541) 480-6259.
Regards,
George Diamond
