Deadline extension request letter

When you miss a deadline no matter what the purpose is for, it looks bad on you and it’s extremely bad for business. It’s hard to retain someone’s attention or business after you have missed a deadline but you can still do it if you handle yourself professionally. The proper thing to do if you know a deadline is coming up and you can’t make it, is to write a deadline extension request letter.

Steps

Starting to Write

1

Which project and what exactly are you working on for the boss/client? Also, state the dead line you will not make.

2

If you have any valid reasons to share, it would be a good idea to share them here.

3

Offer what deadline you would like to propose as the new deadline.

4

Ask for any solutions or suggestions to help address the problem.

Dear Martin,

I know we have set up a deadline of October 15 but I’m afraid that will be impossible to deliver your website in time. In keeping with the new requirements I got a week ago, it’s going to take more time to develop the site you want and to add the features that you are requesting.

I propose that we add another 2 weeks to the deadline so that I may have proper time to not only implement the new features but to make sure they work as well. As you know, I have to not only build and code the website but make sure it functions properly as well. Please let me know if you can wait two more weeks. Contact me at 482-102-3817.

Sincerely,

Adam
