A letter of authorization is a document authorizing the recipient to carry out a certain action. For example a bank account holder may write a letter to the bank authorizing a transaction, or authorizing somebody else to act on their behalf if sick.
In most countries airlines require a letter of authorization if a minor is to fly without a parent our guardian. This grants the airline temporary custody rights over the child.
Uses of the letter may also include authorizing somebody to drive your car or to collect tickets in your name from a box office.
These letters of commonly used in the business world, were a client would give a business authorization to start completing a task or to authorize changes to a certain, preexisting agreement.
State explicitly what is being authorized and who you’re granting the authorization to.
Provide as much detail as possible to reassure the intended reader that it was really you who wrote the letter. For example the make, model and insurance details of a vehicle, if authorizing somebody else to drive it.
Sign the letter to make it legally binding.
