A letter of authenticity is a letter that accompanies an object (usually a collectible or a item of high value) which certifies its authenticity. Due to the rise in fraud, letters of authenticity have become the lifeblood of the collectibles industry, and items without them usually drop in value significantly. If you are purchasing a collectible or something of high value, it is advisable to get a letter or authenticity with it.
Include the official title or name of the item, artwork or collectible.
State what materials and medium was used to create the piece, such as “moulded out of pure .925 silver”.
Include the name of the creator, what year it was made, and in what country.
Specify any relevant technical details, such as dimensions.
If being authenticated by a authentication body, note the history of the item, how it has been authenticated, and by who (e.g. The Baseball Historians Association of America).
Use a coding system to give the piece a unique identifier.
Sign the letter and include contact information if relevant.
